Red Currant (Ribes rubrum)

Currant refreshes a patient suffering from fevers and thirst. They can also be eaten for upset stomach.

The luscious berry juice promotes appetite, when the berries are eaten the seeds, which are indigestible, provide bulk to regulate the bowels. Use of currant juice as a mouthwash and gargle helps heal sores in the mouth and throat.

Increasing the appetite also helps those who have become emaciated from overindulgence in strong beverages. Thinning the juice with water before drinking has been a good alcohol substitute for many.
