Thyme (Thymus serpyllum)

  Thyme is an antispasmodic and sedative. This herb has been useful in throat and bronchial problems, and it is very helpful for clearing mucous from the lungs and for many respiratory problems.

Thyme also helps to combat alcoholism by causing sweating, thirst, hunger, vomiting and diarrhea along with a revulsion for alcoholic drinks. This treatment will have to be repeated at longer and longer intervals until the person is "cured".

It is also used for stomach problems such as gasttitis, stomach cramps,. An infusion drank while having an alcohol related hangover will usually clear up the headache quickly.

Used externally extracts will help with bruises, stab wounds, rheumatism and tumors on the skin.  Thyme is a safe herb that has been used in cooking for many years to give that extra flavor boost to various foods. Common Names:

Usual Method of Prep Usual Dosage
Infusion:
1 to 2 tsp in
1 cup boiling water
about 10 to 12 minutes.
Take:
1 to 1 1/2 cups per day. Can sweeten with honey except when used for gastrointestinal problems.
Alcohol cure:
Add a hand full of the herb to
to 1 quart of boiling hot water
Cover and steep for 30 minutes.
Take or give:
1 tablespoon every 15 minutes.
Bath Additive:
Add 3 or 4 ounces of flowers (or strong decoction of the herb)
to the bath water.
Bathe:
Twice a day if skin problems are very bad.
For mild cases once a day will do.
