Chickweed (Stellaria media)

  Chickweed makes a very good purgative and by keeping the system clean takes the pressure off nerves that would cause pressure pains to arthritic joints.

For other than the bowels, chickweed is not the most valuable herb to use for other internal ailments as listed.

Internal uses for Chickweed

  • Carminative (an agent for expelling gas)
  • Demulcent (soothing to irritated tissue and mucous membranes)
  • Expectorant
  • Laxative (for serious constipation)


External use for Chickweed

  • Bruises
  • skin problems


Usual Method of Prep Usual Dosage
Soak:
and crush leaves to use for use on skin.
Apply as poultice to skin.
Infusion:
1 tbsp herb in
1/2 cup water
steep as for tea
Take 1/2 to 1 cup a day.
